             Same sex marriage

Same-sex marriage is not legally recognized in India. In 2013, the Indian Supreme Court upheld Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalizes consensual sexual acts between same-sex individuals. However, in 2018, the Supreme Court of India decriminalized homosexuality, stating that sexual orientation is a fundamental right and that consensual same-sex relationships between adults should not be criminalized.

According to a 2019 survey conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, 55% of respondents supported same-sex marriage in India, while 31% opposed it. The remaining respondents either did not have an opinion or were unsure.

Around the world, same-sex marriage has been legalized in 29 countries, including Canada, the United States, and most of Western Europe. In South America, same-sex marriage is legal in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Uruguay. In Africa, same-sex marriage is legal in South Africa.

The legalization of same-sex marriage has been a contentious issue in many countries. In the United States, the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015 that same-sex couples have the right to marry under the U.S. Constitution. However, there are still debates and challenges to same-sex marriage in some states.

In Australia, same-sex marriage was legalized in 2017 after a national postal survey showed that 61.6% of respondents supported it. In Taiwan, same-sex marriage was legalized in 2019, making it the first Asian country to do so.

Overall, the legalization of same-sex marriage has been a step towards equality and recognition of the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. However, there are still many countries where same-sex marriage is not recognized, and discrimination and prejudice against LGBTQ+ individuals continue to persist.
