                              Happiness

Happiness is a state of positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happiness leads to :-

  • High self esteem.
  • Integration with society
  • Freedom from stress, depression and anxiety.
  • Optimism

It is of such fundamental importance to the human condition that "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" were deemed to be unalienable rights by the United States Declaration of Independence. Thus, all individual do aspire for happiness.

However, different people have different level of happiness disposition i.e. inner tendency to remain happy. Also, happiness is a fuzzy concept and can mean many different things to different people.

For me there are lots of things, which make me feel happy. I love to write articles, to communicate with strangers, to go out, to play sports, to go shopping, to visit friends and lots of other small things. Also a delicious meal e.g. can make me happy. When I'm with my friends, we often laugh until tears are running down our faces. Sometimes we just relax, analyse life and I'm feeling happy too. I'm not a person who can't be happy alone. e.g. one cannot remain happy if his parents, spouse or people around him are not happy. Being successful brings happiness to me too, but I don't think that the only way to get happy is to have money. Money doesn't make you happy, but it makes life easier. You don't have to worry about lots of things.

  • Smile more (but mean it)

A smile could light up anyone's day. It is a ray of sunshine for many having a rough time. Scientifically, smiling is also associated with the release of a 'feel good' hormone called dopamine, which is said to make you happier and helps you cope with stress.

  • Get sufficient sleep

Insufficient sleep has been linked to various health issues and is said to impair cognitive functions. It is associated with irritability, poor concentration power and chronic illnesses such as heart problems, diabetes, obesity and more.Additionally, a good sleep is also vital for emotional well-being. Most adults need atleast 7-8 hours of sleep every night. A well rested body therefore equates to a healthy functioning of the body, keeping the mind and body at peace.

  • Exercise regularly

Although true happiness is not humanly possible, you can reduce your stress, anxiety and symptoms of depression, if any, by regular exercise or physical activity. Daily workout routines keep you in good shape and also tend to your mental health, boosting your self-esteem and keeping you happy.

  • Eat mood-boosting foods

Not only do certain foods have a positive impact on your physical health, but they can work wonders on boosting your mood too.

  • Expand your social circle (but take pleasure being alone too)

Having friends or being a part of a community is important. It exposes you to different types of people, helps you learn a lot about yourself and also bestows upon you a feeling of belonging.

  • Reflect and acknowledge the unhappy moments

Happiness does not come the easy way. Only when you learn to overcome challenges, know the taste of failure and learn from your mistakes, is it then that you find true happiness. This is why you must reflect on your journey, acknowledge your unhappy moments and then see how far along you have come.

  • Do not dwell on grudges

Being disappointed with someone you love or care for is a part of life. You may feel hurt and betrayed, but you must ask yourself if holding grudges frees you of your woes. Surely not! That said, avoid dwelling on grudges and learn to forgive
